About ski accidents

According to a study conducted by the traumatology service of the Austrian hospital of Innsbruck, a third of skiers who had to be hospitalized for serious ski injuries were under the influence of alcohol or benzodiazepine. This conclusion has been drawn from the study of 402 skiers involved in the accident.

Of these 402 skiers 81, that is, 20%, had alcohol in urine, 34, that is, 8.5%, benzodiazepine remains and 10 skiers. In addition, the wounded who consumed alcohol or benzodiazepine were more serious than those who consumed nothing.

The accidents of skiers consumed by alcohol or drugs occurred at noon. In general, these skiers were beginners or did not have too much skill to ski. The skilled skiers who suffered accidents did not have, in general, traces of alcohol.

After hospital admission, 80% of alcohol-related accidents confirmed alcohol consumption without problems. On the contrary, among those who consumed drugs, practically no one confirmed the taking of drugs.

From this fact it can be deduced that the social image of alcohol is better than that of the drug.
