The company Adur de Oiartzun has begun to use a material that was used 5,000 years ago to cover the facades of the buildings. This material is a natural lime with better results than other materials used in current construction.
The bricks of the facades are currently covered with cement, but cracks and fungi often appear on the coatings, since due to moisture, the cement cannot remove the aspirate water.
However, natural lime dries from the inside out, making it a good insulator of rain and moisture. Thanks to this idea of using natural lime, the company Adur received last April the award for the best product of the Catalan construction fair Construmat. Natural lime can only currently be obtained at the Saint Astier mine in France, but it is believed that there are more such coves in the Alps or Urals.
