Elhuyar, coinciding with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

With the aim of achieving full and equal participation of women and girls in science, the United Nations General Assembly approved in 2016 the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February. Elhuyar has been working for years with this objective and joins the demand for this international day.

As a sign of this attitude, Teknopolis will offer a full session to female scientists. In this way, the award-winning DIPC researcher Maia García Vergniory will be interviewed and, in the main report, the activity of women in vocational training in the industrial field will be explained, both from the point of view of teachers and students.

In addition, at the Northern Ferrokarrilla, mathematician Eli Alberdi Estibaritz will analyze the relationship between mathematics and women. Elhuyar magazine, for its part, offers the possibility to meet women researchers through, among other things, Ekin's interviews.

Collaboration as the basis for equality

In addition to giving prominence to women scientists in the media, Elhuyar promotes the participation of women and women in the scientific field through other projects. It should be noted that many of these projects are carried out collaboratively, since it considers collaboration essential to achieve the objective.

An example of this is the European project PLOTINA, which aims to promote and ensure equality in research organizations in Europe. The last meeting was recently held in January. He was in Istanbul and, among other things, organized a workshop to share lessons learned in the development of equality plans in international research centers, led by members of Elhuyar.
