Fewer cases of cancer in patients with Down syndrome

Patients with Down syndrome have a lower risk of developing certain types of cancer. These patients have one more copy of chromosome 21. And a research group at the Boston children's hospital has concluded that having one more copy of the DSCR1 gene on chromosome 21, also known as RCAN1, slows the growth of cancer tumors.
