Two scientists from the University of Columbia have converted the film L'arrivée d'un train à La Ciotat (1895) into ADN.To do this, they have created an algorithm that returns the information indicated in the binary code by 0 and 1 to the nitrogenous bases of the DNA (A, C, G, T). Similar tests have previously been conducted, but they gave errors and were limited. However, according to the journal Science, the method developed by them is totally reliable and allows to store more information than the previous ones. For example, other methods made a mistake if a nitrogen base was repeated many times in a row. Columbia researchers have managed to overcome this barrier by replacing these combinations with other sequences. Other improvements have also been made and the algorithm developed has been called DNA Source. With him they have made the film test: translate the binary code of the film to the genetic code, send it to a laboratory to synthesize it (Twist Bioscience, San Francisco, California), there convert it into DNA, recover it in Columbia and decode it, they have managed to watch the film without errors.
