The objective of the program is to inform the superior technicians and media of the technology and application of the composites. For this purpose, long-term courses (more than 250 hours each) will be organized among other activities.
The Basque centre INASMET is responsible for teaching the courses. The European Social Fund will cover 50% of the course costs. The rest will be paid among the Public Administrations of each of the aforementioned countries. Therefore, the Basque Government, through its Department, will participate in the financing of this program.
The field of application of the composite materials is very broad, such as automotive, sports articles (tennis racket, carbon fiber bikes, fishing rods), consumer goods, construction, aeronautics, etc. Among other advantages, the strength, rigidity and mechanical properties of composites are similar to those of steel, but their weight is much lower. For example, it has been possible to reduce the weight in cars by 100 kg and improve consumption.
