Iron to cool the climate

Due to the high absorption capacity of carbon dioxide from algae, they could be an optimal natural system against climate change. Therefore, researchers study how to increase algae activity. In 1999, iron was used to fertilize algae in a region near Antarctica, causing growth. However, it is a matter of being careful, as it is not yet clear what effect the long-term fertilization of algae can have on the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. On the other hand, some experts consider that fertilization can increase the performance of fish banks.
