Monoatom transistor experiment

Nanotechnologists dream of making monoatom transistors. They can't do it yet, but in the June 13 issue of the journal Nature he has noticed an approach to Cornell University. In this case, scientists have used transition metals associated with an organic molecule to make transistors.

The organic molecule is the support of a cobalt atom that supports the electrodes. This system can assimilate an electron from an electrical voltage in the portal and only one: Coulomb's repulsion forces prevent you from entering a second electron into the system. Finally, between the organic molecule and the metal the electrons are exchanged through the Condo effect (one of the pathways that the molecule has to keep the basic energy state).

Physicists are not willing to perform single-electron transistors, but one more step has been made.
