11/01/2005 | Elhuyar

Astronomers have seen the oldest gamma ray explosion seen so far. These rays were emitted when the universe was only 900 million years old -- they are the energy of particles released when a giant star dies. This explosion has been detected by the Swift satellite and has warned thousands of astronomers around the world to direct the telescopes to this area of the sky.
