Maintaining fish at a certain depth

Liverpool researchers have explained the mechanisms that occur in the swim bladder to maintain a certain depth without moving.

Fish alter the gas content of the swim bladder to maintain depth, such as cod. The mechanism is very complex, including a complex arterial and venous system and special blood proteins. These can blow the bladder, that is, release the oxygen gas at a very high pressure, that is, at great depth.

It seems that a similar mechanism occurs in the retina of the eye, but it seems to be older. In fact, these special blood proteins involved in the mechanism are found in fish eyes long before the swim bladder. In view of this, it is focusing on investigating how fish have evolved to adapt to different depths.
