The most ultra-fast camera
A team of researchers at Washington University in St. Louis has developed the fastest 2D camera in history. The new camera is capable of capturing 100,000 million frames per second, the fastest so far 10,000 times slower.
Thanks to the new camera, researchers have been able to record incredibly fast physical phenomena. Along with the results published in the journal Nature, videos of different recorded phenomena have been shown: how a laser pulse is reflected in a mirror and the “race” between two photons that move in two different media. “For the first time, humans are able to see the laser pulses moving,” explains Lihong Wang, a technician. In his opinion, the new technique has opened up a whole level of phenomena that we will be able to see. For example, it allows you to better understand very fast biological interactions and very rapid chemical processes and improve dynamic and complex system models.•
