Blood tests to reduce antibiotic use

A new method lets you know if the disease is caused by bacteria or viruses.

This will make it easier for the doctor to decide whether to prescribe an antibiotic, since antibiotics only face bacteria.

This method is to measure procalcitonin through a blood test. When the infection is caused by a bacteria, the concentration of procalcitonin increases considerably, while when it is caused by a virus does not increase as much.

Although the method is not exhaustive, it can only help you consume antibiotics when necessary.
