Amazon rainforest is losing itself faster and faster

Researchers from Brazil and the United States have announced that the destruction of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil has accelerated in the last ten years. The research is based on concrete satellite images taken since 1978. Contrary to the Government of Brazil, since 1995 the destruction of the forest has increased considerably.

Between 1995 and 2000, two million hectares of annual forests were lost, equivalent to seven football fields per minute. According to the researchers, these figures are from the 70s and 80s, the worst times for Amazonas. Although the Brazilian government has created laws to protect the forest, researchers have denounced that they rarely comply. On the other hand, they warn that the infrastructure that they want to build in the coming years will completely fragment the forest.
