WAP technology in the communications line

In the last three or four years we have experienced a spectacular surge of Internet and mobile phones separately. Below is a second logical step, the possibility to use the Internet from mobile phones, as well as management from the phone of personal agendas, emails and similar. All this comes from the hand of WAP technology, but even though since last year the phones that use this technology are on the market, there is still no connection to adequate speed.

All mobile phones currently manufactured have this technology and since the end of last year there are mobile phones on the market that use WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) technology. However, despite its timing, it seems that by the end of this year the market will be saturated by this type of phone. From these phones we can connect to the Internet and thus enjoy the services offered by the Internet from our regular phone. The SMS used so far had several options: read news, receive stock quotes, see weather forecasts, etc. From now on we will have other options, especially e-commerce and games.

CEBIT 2000

The important IT fair Cebit 2000 held in Hannover in February has been dominated by mobile phones with WAP technology. The largest households using this technology have presented the offer of their products. It is known that on the screen of the mobile phone you will not be able to see the ordinary web, but for this they are creating websites specialized in the big houses or signing agreements with the most important websites existing to adapt them also to the mobile phones. For example, Nokia exposed the agreement with Amazon so that users of their phones can buy books, records and the like from their phone. For its part, Motorola plans to create its own portal of telephone access to the Internet, reaching agreements with the area of Amazon and Digital Bridges games.

The problem is another. Although the technology is developed, most of the servers that offer access to the phone have not yet adapted their networks to offer this type of services, and very few will be able to offer this service before the end of this year, those who already offer it have a slow speed. We will have to wait until next year to have Internet on our mobile phone.
