First strong X-ray pulses in Europe

First strong X-ray pulses in Europe
07/01/2007 | Elhuyar

Hamburg will host the first European X-ray laser, XFEL. This instrument will first accelerate the electrons to significantly increase their energy level and subsequently boost the emission of high-intensity X-ray pulses. These pulses will have a wavelength lower than the waves of conventional lasers. This will allow to visualize the atomic structure of the molecules. Thus, researchers will be able to analyze chemical experiments and reactions at the atomic level.
