Neiker-Tecnalia, in collaboration with the Alava rural development associations, has obtained a grant from the European LEADER + programme for the design of an advisory service for the irrigation of farmers. This will facilitate the sustainability of crops that require irrigation in Alava.

To do this, work will be carried out aimed at obtaining data such as agrometeorological data and needs and water resources from different populations. Information and communication technologies will also be used: local sensors and remote interactive systems over the Internet. In addition, using information based on mathematical models, taking into account the instantaneous volume of water resources, frequencies and quantities of irrigation will be established that generate acceptable productivity losses, optimizing the benefits of agricultural farms.

In short, taking into account existing resources and needs, they intend to develop a system that streamlines water consumption, easily interpreted by farmers.
