Why does the stomach not iron? It is true that in some areas a mucosal and bicarbonate barrier protects the cells, but the cells in the center of the gastric glands do not have that protection.
A group of researchers from the University of Yale of Connecticut reveals some of the mystery. Cells that secrete gastric juices are special. The membrane in contact with acidic substances is waterproof and the strong acidifying ammonia and CO2 do not leak, but the other part is like the rest of the body cells. However, it remains to be clarified how resistance to acids in the membrane is achieved.
