A curious investigation carried out in the United States concludes that eating gum burns more energy than expected. The study involved 12 volunteers of stable weight and their work consisted of chewing the chewing gum without calories for 12 minutes sitting in the laboratory. Researchers have measured the energy expenditure of each volunteer before, during and after chewing and concluded that eating gum burns 11 calories per hour. Also, in the absence of any other change in energy balance, researchers have estimated that chewing a chewing gum for an hour daily can result in weight loss of 5 kg/year. But also the pain of marriages.
