A team of researchers from a materials research institute, located in the French Caen, has managed to place thin layers of superconducting material on silicon. This group managed to transport electricity to -183°C a few months ago. What they have achieved today is one more step. A composite of aluminium nitride prevents the combination of superconducting material with lower silicon. The fixing of the superconducting material on the silicon surface is done by a laser vaporization system.
So far the team of researchers used strontium tritanate as superconducting material, which was very expensive. Now, thanks to this new substance, costs will be reduced considerably.
