Researchers led by UPV-EHU professor Iker Badiola and doctor at the University of Bordeaux have discovered a number of compounds that inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection. This discovery is the result of a cooperation consortium promoted by the Basque Campus of International Excellence.
Using bioinformatics tools, the laboratory has identified about a thousand effective compounds against the SARS-COV-2 virus. Among them is sulconazole, an antifungal agent, with inhibition rates of up to 85% in cell models.
Researchers have announced the patent for new use of sulconazole and other anti-SARSC oV-2 compounds.
