Official maritime agencies and environmental organizations around the world have joined in considering the United Nations Oceans Protection Treaty historic. It is agreed to protect 30% (30x30) of the oceans by 2030. They stress that this measure will help alleviate the effects of climate change and save the lives of millions of people.

Objective 30x30, agreed at COP15 on biodiversity, should be ratified by governments. In this regard, it is intended to establish legal instruments for the measurement and management of human activities (fisheries, maritime transport, mining…) that affect the life of the oceans.
