Osakidetza researchers have discovered two new species of pathogenic bacteria for human being. The names of Nocardia gipuzkoensis and Nocardia barduliensis have been isolated from patients.
They point out that it is an important discovery, as it is the first step to understanding the pathogenicity and treatment of these bacteria, and that it will help to better understand the epidemiology of the genus Nocardia. In 2016 the same group of researchers also identified the bacteria Nocardia donostiensis.
The work has been published in the scientific journal Microorganisms.
