On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the death of engineer Jabier Urkola, they held a tribute dinner in their home town, Tolosa. The dinner was attended by numerous colleagues and friends, as well as others from outside such as his PhD director, Michael Sellars, and his colleague John Devine.
In fact, Jabier Urkola was temporarily in Sheffield. There he completed his second doctorate, the first at the School of Engineers of the University of Navarra in San Sebastián. In Sheffield he was named honorary doctor and his path opened the doors to the investigation that was done in Euskal Herria.
It is worth noting the importance that Urkola gave to the Basque language. He wrote hundreds of articles around steel, but José Mari R was especially satisfied. For the book he wrote with Ibabe: Physical Metallurgy in Steel Design. It was edited by the Elhuyar Association, and was the first in Basque.
He was a top-notch expert in steel research and made Basque research recognized in Europe.
