India threatens disaster
If the rain fails, much of India's population can become hungry. The Delhi Ecological Foundation and the British Food Group have published a report on the troubling situation in India.
According to the study In the Famine Trap, in this Asian country there is a risk of increasing a serious hunger. Populated territories and crop degradation are deteriorating India's food reserve.
"If there are one or two bad monsoons in India, the crisis will come tremendous." These words by expert Devinder Sharma are very significant. Sharma added that the biggest problem is soil degradation in the Pundom and Haryana regionets.
Water scarcity can leave agricultural production in an unfortunate state. In India, half of children under 5 suffer from malnutrition according to UNICEF data. If the monsoon fails, millions of children starve.
