It is not easy to get the cover of a scientific journal, but it has been possible thanks to a research carried out in collaboration between researchers from Achucarro and the UPV and researchers from CIC bi<unk> GUNE. His work on stroke or brain ischemia has been put on the cover of Theranostics magazine. The new work has identified new therapeutic milestones to reduce the effects of stroke.

Stroke occurs when a temporary or definitive decrease in brain blood flow occurs, causing many brain damage. There are damages that do not turn back and the consequences remain forever. Glutamate is the most abundant exciting neurotransmitter in the brain, fundamental in neuronal communication, and many of these damage is due to alterations in glutamate levels.

Two years ago, the two research groups identified a protein involved in this disorder at the glutamate level, and in current research, they have found that this same protein also participates in inflammation that occurs after stroke. Research has therefore served to identify new therapeutic forms to reduce the effects of stroke.
