New Jersey's Lakehurst doesn't seem to be the best place for slags. 49 years after the Hinderburg slag disaster, another guiding globe, the Helistat, has landed in Lakehurst. If in the first case there were 36 dead, this time only one has occurred.

An H-shaped aluminum structure held a giant helium-filled cap. In addition, at each end there were two helicopter engines to increase the lifting capacity.

The helistat was commissioned by the U.S. Salvage Service and its goal was to transport wood and wood in remote regions. On 1 July, on a test flight and when the boat was 12 meters from the ground, one of the helicopters failed. The ship became unbalanced and fell to the ground.

Engineers are not surprised by the accident. On the design of the helistat, especially on the function of helicopter engines, there were great uncertainties. In the words of an aeronautical engineer: The maintenance, vibration and stress problems of such a structure must be like a disaster.
