A study by the University Clinic of Navarra has found that sunitinib is an effective drug to stop the metastasis of renal cancer.

Sunitinib's mechanism of action is to block the formation of new blood vessels. This is because tumors, to grow, must develop blood vessels that prevent their growth by blocking the VEGF factor and other similar factors. These factors favor vascular growth.
