The Biscayan technology center Labein is driving the use of virtual reality through European projects. Programs such as Esprit, Application Telematics or Briteuram offer financial aid for the use of new technologies, so the European Union wants to promote all kinds of innovations in companies.
The most outstanding applications of Virtual Reality, the program of simulation of emergency situations in the Bilbao metro, the simulation of the operation of laparoscopy for the training of doctors and the simulation for the electric station of Iberdrola. In the case of the Bilbao Metro, it is a program that visually represents the metro stations, simulating possible emergencies and analyzing all the measures that should be taken.
The second application is a medical training tool for doctors, the laparoscope. Virtual reality aims to create a state as similar as possible to the actual operation. Applications of interest in the field of mechanics are also being created. For example, programs of recognition of virtual geometries through touch or simulations of restoration of old buildings.
