01/07/2007 | Elhuyar

Some transgenic mosquitoes have managed to avoid contaminating with malaria and, in addition, increase the population. The mosquito that spreads malaria in Asia has been genetically modified. Modified mosquitoes killed the parasite Plasmodium berghei, responsible for malaria in the mouse. In addition, these mosquitoes put more eggs than common mosquitoes.

Despite some problems, the experiment has taken a step towards achieving the final objective: A. A. The genetic transformation of the Gambiae mosquitoes and the creation of mosquitoes resistant to parasites that contaminate man with malaria is the species that produces more malaria in the world.
