French physicists, from the Atomic Energy Office and Pierre et Marie Curie University, have melted iron at 200 GP. To do this, they had to use the accelerator Synchrotron Radiation Facility of Grenoble, which has discovered that the melting temperature of iron at this pressure is 6.230 kelvin. The experiment is a simulation of the conditions of the border between the outer core of the Earth and the mantle, through which physicists will be able to analyze some of the characteristics of the dynamics of liquid iron within the planet. In fact, the movement of liquid iron participates in the creation of the Earth's magnetic field.
