Blue whales like quiet rhythms. Their songs are composed of notes that are repeated every 128 seconds and can be used to know their location. Christopher Clark, from Cornell University, has been able to investigate the issues of blue whales spreading across the ocean thanks to hydrophones built to find Russian submarines during the Cold War.
Whales sing long, but usually too often are notes to hear human ears. According to Clark, whales know the place thanks to their songs, as they receive the echo that sounds produce when reflected on the coast. The next challenge is to know the population of blue whales listening to songs.
