Longer video recordings

The Japanese company Matsushita has created a superfine video tape that will increase the recording capacity of existing digital video cameras by 50%. For the manufacture of these video tapes it is necessary to evaporate the cobalt at high temperatures and in vacuum, and then place it in a thin layer of carbon. The advantage is that the tape is very thin, since in a normal cassette a longer tape can be inserted.

If the tapes so far were 7 micrometers, the new type of tape has only 5.5 micrometers. The latest video format on the market is Digital Video (DV), and with this type of thin tape there is no problem in saving the signals. The technology of Metal Perfumes is known, but it has only been used for the manufacture of high quality tapes, due to its high price. Matsushita, however, has opted to stretch the ribbons because it best meets the wishes of buyers.
