Lately there is talk of television in high definition. In Europe, a standard system of 1250 lines, 1400 points per line and 50 figures per second is planned. This means transmitting eight times more information than now. For this purpose it will be mandatory to send satellite images at an approximate frequency of one hundred gigahertz. According to the organization "Eutelsat" the satellites must be decided in the next twelve months to be prepared in 1995.
What is proposed is a system of four satellites. Three would be working and the fourth would be willing to replace a breakdown. In total it would offer 36 channels at a good price for European chains. High-definition images can be received via 60-90 cm antennas, but smaller antennas can receive 625 line images on PAL, Secam or MAC systems.
