"Mir" means peace

Gradually the new Soviet space station, called Mir, begins to reveal its hidden secrets.

37 International held in October last year in Innsbrück. As announced at the Astronaut Congress, in the first months of this year the permanent occupation of the station will begin.

1. Mooring piece— 2. Vessel Soyuz T — 3. Input port— 4. Arm anchor point— 5. Tie side clamp— 6. Association system antenna— 7. Dispatch— 8. Port of Langela— 9. Fronton and checkpoint— 10. Shooter— 11. Cabinets— 12. Solar battery— 13. Exercise bike— 14. Working table— 15. Single room— 16. Bathrooms— 17. Lababoa— 18. Satellite communication antenna— 19. Longitudinal tie clamp— 20. Mobile pavement for training — 22. One of the main engines— 23. White for the association— 24. Engine block— 25. Pass port cover— 26. Observation box office— 27. Window protection.

The multiple connection port allows the station to support 4 or 5 additional modules. These modules are criss-shaped on the front. Each of these modules is associated with a work area: astronomy, biology, metallurgy, ..._. All modules must be docked in the longitudinal axis direction. Subsequently, and by a long arm, they are transferred to the sides of the station.

This is a total of six space vehicles, located at two ends and four sides. The first specialized module, which will carry an X-ray telescope, will be moored this summer.

One station has two large rooms, one to live and one to work. Maintenance and driving are organized by six computers.

Mir station was placed in space by a Pluto launcher and is somewhat bigger and heavier than the old Saliout: 11.13 m long, 4.2 m maximum diameter, 21 tons. Solar panels have a width of 29.73 m and solar cells cover 76 m2. At the rear the station has two main engines of 300 kg of force. These are used for orbit change. It also has 32 14 kg backbeds to control the station position. The autochthonous atmosphere will be complemented by normal pressure air and the temperature will vary between 18-28 °C.
