A study by the University of Navarra has found the protective function of anfirycin (AR). In his doctoral thesis, carried out by Elena Erroba, we observe the participation of the molecule AR in the mechanisms of hepatic defense, since it has a protective function before the death of the hepatocytes, favoring the process of recovery of the hepatic mass. Therefore, it proposes the use of the RA molecule in patients with acute liver failure or hepatic transplants. However, the dose should be calculated very precisely, as they believe that the RA molecule can also cause liver cancer.

Other studies that have led to this last result have been published previously in the journals Cancer Research, Gastroenterology and The Journal of Biological Chemistry. They have also obtained a patent with the investigation.
