China discovers the oldest ceramic remains

In the cave of Yuchanyango, in the Chinese province of Hunan, ceramic remains have been found from 17,500 to 18,300 years ago. The researchers have used radiocarbon dating and have concluded that they are 1,000 years older than the ceramic remains found previously. The oldest remains were found in Japan. The discovery has generated a debate about the country of birth of ceramics.
