To better understand the influence of mountains on weather and climate, a program called Pyrex has been launched. This program promoted between France and Spain is being developed in the Pyrenees. Fifteen data centers have been formed in different Pyrenean summits, one of them in the well-known Monte Midi. All data obtained from these data centers are transmitted to the Meteosat satellite.
Together with these centers three planes will be used for data collection. The data will be collected in October and November for three years. The immediate objective of these investigations is to investigate the winds that occur in the Pyrenean territories and the waves of relief that periodically occur in the Pyrenees. This way, meteorologists will make weather forecasts more successful.
