A French osteodensimeter is planned for the following missions at the Mir space station. The Ubis 3000 device is designed by a laboratory of CNRS and marketed by the DMS (Diagnostic Medical Systems) of Montpellier. Ultrasound can visualize the bones and measure their density. The apparatus is in the Mir station as in space the bone density decreases between 10-15%.
Osteoporosis in the soil mainly affects women. On the one hand the bone mass is reduced and on the other the microstructure of the bone deteriorates. X-rays used so far allow bone density to be measured, but the dms-prepared ultrasound apparatus also provides an image of the interior architecture of the bone.
