New delta car

The Italian company Lancia has launched its new Delta models. Among them is a version with all four wheels and operators. Compared to other models of homes with traction of this type, there is a great technological difference. This is the first series car that uses a rear differential type tors.

The name Tors comes from the summary of the English phrase Torque sensitive. This type of differential was designed by an engineer named Grissmann. The US Air Force won a competition on the transmission of multi-axis tractors for the transport of B52 bombers.

So far, this differential has only been used by racing cars. Niki Lauda and Alain Próste took him to their McLean, for example.

The main advantage of the tors system is that it allows you to adjust the speed of each wheel that takes power in the curves.

It consists of a typical crown and a pinion, but they are combined with two planetariums. The planetariums consist of two endless screws connected to each wheel. Likewise, geared to each planetarium there are six satellites geared by pairs with direct teeth.

In direct route they rotate jointly planetary, satellite and crankcase that holds them. Thus, satellites are standing. In the curves, the satellites begin to roll accelerating the planetarium of the outer wheel and slowing the interior. If a wheel is accelerated by lack of adherence to Earth, satellites are not able to accelerate the corresponding planetarium.

In short, the Tors differential prevents the slip of the most discharged wheel, acting as an anti-block differential.
