Australian and US climate change project

Australia and the United States announce a project to reduce the use of greenhouse gases. The project, called the US-Australia Climate Action Partnership, has agreed, among others, 19 work programmes for research on climate change, the implementation of emission reduction strategies and the study of agreements with industry to reduce the generation of hazardous gases.

At the time both countries rejected the proposed protocol in Kyoto to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, claiming that the United States would lose a lot of jobs and suffer great economic losses, and that while Australians do not sign developing countries such as China and India would not accept them. Now, both countries claim that a joint international initiative is essential to combat climate change.
